Educational Activities with Schools

ALPSTREAM organizes educational activities for all school degrees designed and delivered by trained and qualified staff. These activities stand out for their interactive, multisensory, and interdisciplinary approach, addressing topics related to the protection and study of water bodies, especially alpine rivers. The main topics include the proper management of river systems and water resources, as well as the study of biodiversity and the natural heritage of our mountains. The proposed activities are characterized by a strong experimental approach, enabling students to learn and gain knowledge through hands-on experience.

NATIONAL PLAN FOR SCIENTIFIC DEGREES

The National Plan for Scientific Degrees is an educational project aimed at evaluating the biodiversity and environmental quality of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, applying biomonitoring techniques used in scientific research and environmental monitoring, which are essential for achieving the goals proposed in the 2030 Agenda. The project includes theoretical activities conducted in classrooms and practical fieldwork. Additionally, various laboratory activities allow students to personally be engaged in all the phases of the work carried out by environmental biologists. Due to the COVID emergency, social distancing often posed a challenge to providing hands-on training. However, with the use of toolboxes supplied to schools, students and teachers were guided throughout the educational program.

THE RIVER BOX

The project “The river box: per una didattica fluida” won the 2020 AmbientAzioni Grant promoted by the Territorial Committee of Turin and focused on two main areas: raising awareness about conserving water and energy resources, and mitigation and adaptation to climate change. This is achieved through specially designed boxes that contain everything needed to conduct experiments, either in the classroom or in remote.

SUMMER SCHOOL "SCIENCE IN NATURE"

The "Science in Nature Summer School" took place from September 6 to 13 2021 in Ostana at the ALPSTREAM Center and was aimed at second-year students from the applied sciences program at the Volta Institute in Turin. Students explored the world of Alpine biodiversity through hiking, fieldwork, and laboratory experiences. Macroinvertebrates, diatoms, butterflies, and other pollinators became the focus of the scientific activities. The Monviso Park and Sant’Antonio (Ostana) provided the perfect setting to observe the surrounding nature with a scientist's eye, further enriched by evening recreational activities.

A Day by the River with Students from Liceo Cattaneo

A wonderful day by the river with students from Liceo Cattaneo in Turin, trained by Professor Paola Sperone, as part of the "Water and Environment" project (PNRR STEM). After a field work in Crissolo sampling benthic macroinvertebrates in the Po River, we moved to Ostana at the ALPSTREAM center for an afternoon of river ecology and organism identification using stereomicroscopes and...

From Lapland to the Po River:

On Wednesday, November 6, an educational day was organized with the Galilei Scientific High School of Voghera, involving a group of Italian and Finnish teachers and students. The day was part of an Erasmus+ project focused on the environmental sustainability and the ecology of the Po River basin (Italy) and the Ouna River basin (Finland). Starting from Crissolo, park rangers from the...
