From Lapland to the Po River:
students discovering the River’s origins
On Wednesday, November 6, an educational day was organized with the Galilei Scientific High School of Voghera, involving a group of Italian and Finnish teachers and students. The day was part of an Erasmus+ project focused on the environmental sustainability and the ecology of the Po River basin (Italy) and the Ouna River basin (Finland).
Starting from Crissolo, park rangers from the Monviso Park led the group on a walk to Ponte Riondino, sharing insights about some of the unique characteristics of the Park's ecosystem. Upon arrival, Dr. Sabrina Basile, a researcher from the Alpstream center, guided an in-depth observation of the river ecological features at the Po river source, also performing a sampling of benthic macroinvertebrates. This gave students the opportunity to observe these organisms up close and reflect on the topic of river biodiversity.
