Italian ring-test on the taxonomy of freshwater benthic diatoms

In 2020, the Alpstream group, in collaboration with CISBA (the Italian Center for the Study of the Environmental Biology) and ISPRA, organized a ring test on the taxonomy of freshwater benthic diatoms, involving 36 laboratories on the whole Italian peninsula. For this intercomparison exercise, all the involved laboratories analysed the same diatom sample, collected in Liguria from a Mediterranean-type...

Rivers: connections and contradictions between humans and the environment

The connections between humans and rivers are extensive and profound. Despite their uniqueness, over the last half-century, the state of rivers has been severely impacted by climate change, local impacts and often improper water management. In this delicate context, the Academy of Sciences of Turin promotes a series of conferences aimed at illustrating some of the critical issues related to water.
