The "Sostenibili PerCorsi" project

In 2020-2021, the Alpstream group participated in "Sostenibili perCorsi", a public engagement project of the University of Turin aimed at promoting scientific and educational content with a focus on water, water resources, and human health, in the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Specifically, Sostenibili PerCorsi involved the creation of a presentation video for the ALPSTREAM center and releted activities.

The Sostenibili PerCorsi project organized six water-themed live sessions on its Facebook page, where the scientific language of university department guests was paired with the fun and irreverent approach of an entertainment figure.

In this context, during one of the live sessions, the Center for the Study of Alpine Rivers in Ostana was introduced.

Alpstream was also featured in a Facebook live session titled "Alien Attack: How the Arrival of Non-Native Species is Changing Our Rivers." Aquatic environments are among the most threatened ecosystems by the invasion of non-native species, which are organisms introduced by humans from other parts of the world. These so-called "aliens" represent the second biggest threat to biodiversity, after habitat destruction. In this session, we discussed species such as the wels catfish, California crayfish, and so on focusing on how all of these species are altering the landscape of our river ecosystems.

Finally, Alpstream was a key participant in the concluding event of the Sostenibili PerCorsi project, titled "What Future for the Waters of the Planet?". During this event, the discussion focused on the responses that research and scientific communication centers can offer to the global water-related issues affecting our planet. Guests and researchers from the various centers presented ideas and projects, from different scientific perspectives, on how to study and safeguard aquatic environments.
