International Joint Meeting Ephemeroptera and Plecoptera 2024

The activity of the ALPSTREAM group continues on the territory. Researchers from the University of Turin, affiliated with the Center for the Study of Alpine Rivers, organized the international congress IJM Ephemeroptera & Plecoptera 2024 from July 21st to 26th. 114 participants from 32 countries, 4 days of presentations, and 1 day of field trips at the ALPSTREAM center: these are the key figures of the congress, which took place in Turin at the Department of Life Sciences.

The congress was dedicated to two orders of aquatic insects that are of primary importance in the analysis of the environmental quality of rivers and streams. The discussions focused on the biology, behavior, as well as the ecology and taxonomy of these two groups of aquatic insects.

Alongside the important moments of sharing studies and scientific discoveries, there were also numerous cultural and social events. Among the most appreciated was the inaugural concert held by the Polimnia Choir, which, under the direction of Maestro Claudio Fenoglio, enchanted the foreign guests with arias and pieces from the great Italian operatic tradition.

The destination of the traditional excursion of the Congress was Pian della Regina, where the participants were welcomed by staff from the Park Authority, who illustrated the history and natural features of the area, and then to Ostana. Here, scientists from China, Canada, South Korea, Germany, and other countries appreciated the initiatives and facilities of the ALPSTREAM center, a project born from the synergy between the University of Turin, the Monviso Park, the Municipality of Ostana, and the local area, which is gaining increasing success.
